ARTEMUS VULGARIS

Artemus Vulgaris

Artemus Vulgaris is a man of many faces. A jack-of-all-trades-visual-comedian who blurs the line between vaudeville and burlesque. You might have seen him as a 90 year old magician, a sleazy lounge lizard, a baggy-pants clown, a sideshow huckster hawking 'Hellfire', or an historical character, like Abe Lincoln or Groucho Marx. Using his unique blend of pantomime and physical comedy, he continues to provide Kansas City with bawdy routines and comedic stripteases.

He is a frequent contributor to the KCSOB (originally billed as 'Bindlestiff Willy'), Byrd Productions, The KC Fringe Festival, The Lawrence Busker Fest, Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School, and has entertained in countless Kansas City bars, nightclubs, and event venues including Starlight Theater, The Uptown, Crosstown Station, and the historic Folly Theater.

When he's not performing with the KCSOB, he and burlesque partner Annie Cherry pack up their caravan and take their show on the road. They have entertained across the Midwest with a unique blend of song, dance, comedy, and striptease, including repeat performances at the Coney Island Burlesque Festival.

If you keep an eye open, you can also spot Mr. Vulgaris around town as a Charlie Chaplin impersonator for hire, on stage in community theater productions, or busking his way around Kansas City in the form of a mime, a hobo clown, or an organ grinder. On top of all that, he earns his keep as a freelance illustrator and designer, and spends his time with Annie pickling their internal workings with bourbon, and turning their old house into a shrine to carnivals.
